Brian Herbert is a dedicated leader in the fraud space and subject matter expert within the insurance and financial services industry. Brian has been a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) since 2010. In addition to the CFE, Brian is a Certified Fraud Insurance Investigator (CIFI) and holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. Prior to transitioning to the private sector as a fraud investigator in 2008, Brian served as a law enforcement officer and is a veteran of the Illinois Army National Guard. His passion for anti-fraud training programs developed when he got into the industry and tapped his undergraduate degrees in history and secondary education along with his experience as a teacher prior to law enforcement. He has been a regular speaker on fraud topics at local, regional, and national conferences. He presented nationally at the 2023 and 2025 IASIU Conferences, the 2022 Loma Limra Fraud Conference and the 2025 Evadata Fraud Conference. He will also be speaking at the ACFE Global Fraud Conference in July 2026. He has been the Director of the Fraud Operations Center of Excellence at Group1001 since March of 2025, where he leads a team to help detect and prevent fraud perpetrated against the customers and companies of Group1001. His team is responsible for anti-fraud training, data analytics and technology tools, business process analysis, annual fraud risk assessments, and other key activities designed to prevent and detect fraud. Brian is currently a member of the ACFE, IASIU, and IAFCI. He is currently the chair of the board of directors for the Central Indiana Chapter for the ACFE, and chapter president for the Indiana Chapter of the International Association of the Special Investigation Units. Brian also serves as the chair of the membership committee for the Central Indiana Chapter of the ACFE and helps with the annual two-day professional development conference planning. He is actively engaged in numerous industry working groups and committees to share information and best practices with other subject matter experts in the industry.
